About Us

With a family plumbing business and an uncle’s property investment portfolio close at hand, Tom has a lifetime of experience managing and maintaining properties. He received his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University where he also worked in facilities management while studying full time. His experience in the trades grew as he worked alongside seasoned professionals in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, locksmithing, and controls. After college, Tom worked for a national conventional management company where he achieved regional acclaim until relocating to West Michigan and joining Compass Property Management in 2014. With few contacts and a fresh start in the area, he started with Compass in the maintenance department where he grew from technician to coordinator, and eventually managed the department. Tom is now the Director of Operations for Compass and appreciates the challenge that each unique property brings to the table.

In the community, Tom stays involved with the Conductive Learning Center of North America, a local center for kids learning to overcome neuro-muscular disorders, where he has served on the annual River Bank Run fundraising committee.

Each summer, Tom enjoys life around a bonfire watching backyard movies with his family and travelling to remote destinations in his Jeep.

Vanessa joined Compass Property Management in 2017. She has been active in West Michigan's real estate industry for over 16 years. She has experience with conventional and project based multifamily property management as well as portfolio management. Vanessa is a driven, results oriented manager with an in-depth knowledge of the Grand Rapids rental market. She brings a high level of integrity to the work that she does. Vanessa is known for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, tenants and agencies alike. In addition to her dynamic role, Vanessa is a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee with the RPOA, The Grand Rapids Board of Review, and the Women’s Council of Realtors.

Vanessa has attended Davenport University where she received her Masters of Business Administration and holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She also holds her Michigan's Real Estate Salespersons License.

Vanessa resides in Grand Rapids and has lived and worked here most of her life. Her daughter and son are very active in soccer and lacrosse. When she isn’t driving kids to practice or games she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and hiking trails along the lakeshore.

Kate began collaborating with Compass Property Management in 2020 and officially joined the team as an employee in 2023. She has been active in the real estate industry for over 10 years, managing both conventional and project-based multifamily properties, as well as overseeing portfolio operations throughout the Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland, and Kalamazoo markets.

As a dedicated real estate professional with Compass Property Management, Kate is committed to delivering exceptional service and strategic results for property owners and tenants alike. She brings strong market knowledge, thoughtful asset oversight, and a hands-on management style to every property she serves.

Kate has extensive experience overseeing property renovations and value-add improvements, helping owners enhance performance, increase revenue, and protect long-term asset value. From targeted capital improvements to larger repositioning projects, she works closely with owners and contractors to ensure renovations are executed efficiently and aligned with investment goals.

She is a proud member of CREW of West Michigan and serves on the organization’s Membership Committee, actively engaging with industry leaders and supporting the growth of commercial real estate professionals across the region. Outside of work, Kate loves to travel and explore new places, bringing fresh perspective and energy to both her professional and personal life.

Olivia joined Compass Property Management in 2024, bringing with her 8 dynamic years of experience in property management in West Michigan. Her background includes a record of driving results through creative marketing initiatives and strategic brand management for new multifamily developments in the Grand Rapids area. She has a passion for creating valued experiences through resident engagement and community outreach.

Olivia is a graduate of Western Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Advertising, and Business Management.

When she is not on the sideline watching her two boys play sports, she enjoys being active with her family while spending time on the lake, golfing, skiing and traveling.

A Grand Rapids native, Heidi brings a wealth of experience to our team. With a strong foundation in property management since 2012, she has successfully managed multiple communities in various capacities.

Heidi's expertise extends beyond property management, encompassing roles in hospitality and office administration. Her ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, as demonstrated by her involvement in restaurant openings, coupled with her meticulous attention to detail, make her a valuable asset to our company. Heidi's passion for building strong communities and her commitment to exceptional service align perfectly with our company values.

When she's not immersed in her professional pursuits, Heidi enjoys the simple pleasures of life: traveling, golfing, beach days, delicious food, and most importantly, cherishing the moments with her three incredible children.

Kelly joined Compass Property Management in 2026, bringing with her a strong background in strategic communications and high-touch customer service. Her professional experience includes a proven record of building lasting client relationships and delivering exceptional service, with a sharp focus on optimizing workflows to ensure a seamless operational experience for both residents and ownership groups.

Kelly is a graduate of The Ohio State University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Strategic Communications.

When she is not in the office, Kelly is an avid outdoors enthusiast who is currently on a mission to visit all 63 U.S. National Parks. She loves spending her free time hiking, reading, and creating lasting memories with her family, friends, and beloved pets.

Ivan is a seasoned professional with a diverse background that seamlessly blends customer service with a passion for the great outdoors. With six years under his belt as Assistant Property Manager for Vanessa at Compass, Ivan has honed his skills in property management and resident satisfaction. His previous roles in the home loans department at Bank of America and the sales sector at HPE have equipped him with a deep understanding of financial services and customer relations. A graduate of business administration, Ivan’s analytical mind coupled with his people-oriented approach makes him a valuable asset in any team.

When he’s not working, you can find him conquering new challenges—literally. An avid runner and triathlete, Ivan's endurance and determination mirror his professional drive. Along with his wife, he embraces life's adventures, finding balance and inspiration in the world beyond the office.

With a strong background in maintenance coordination since 2018, Erik has honed his skills in overseeing property operations, managing maintenance tasks, and ensuring tenant satisfaction.

Erik's experience includes coordinating repairs, building strong vendor relationships, and implementing efficient systems to streamline property management processes.

His dedication to providing exceptional service and proactive problem-solving consistently contributes to the success and smooth operation of the properties we manage.
